JLeww Productions provided live sound production and technical support for South Park Baptist Church's concert in Houston, TX on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Our role was to ensure a clear, balanced, and reliable sound environment from rehearsal through live execution.

The system had two microphone groups serving overlapping sources with competing priorities, and the controls were scattered — making real-time management difficult. Handheld mics and overhead mics were picking up many of the same sources, while the handhelds needed to prioritize both soloists and the choir and the overheads needed to serve the choir. Bringing up multiple mics around the same source reduced available headroom and raised feedback risk — and with channels spread across the board, decisions were slower in the moment.

The key question became: what role should each microphone group actually play?

Before, handhelds and overheads captured the same sources while channels sat scattered across the console — overlapping sources, competing priorities, and scattered controls added up to slower live decisions and greater risk.

We defined the purpose of each microphone group — handhelds as the primary source for clarity and presence, overheads to capture the full ensemble and room — then organized the console to match, making live decisions faster and more intentional.
